Education
Pre- College Education
During the years of Franklin's primary education, she showed spectacular academic capabilities. This was why, by the age of 6 Rosalind joined her older brother Roland at the private school "Norland Place School". People around Rosalind would notice that all of her life revolved around academics and her love for school, and everything related to it. |

When Rosalind was nine years old she was sent to the Lindores School for Young Laddies boarding school, there she excelled as she did in every school she attended. By the time her pre-college education was ending, Rosalind earned her matriculation with six distinctions in 1938. She also won a scholarship of 30 euros plus a 5 euro donation from her grandfather.
Rosalind's father at first was defiant and did not agree with the delusion of his daughter going to college. He asked her to donate her scholarship money to a refugee student. Of course with Rosalind's love for school she did not give in to her fathers protest. |

College Education
In 1938 Rosalind Franklin began her college education by enrolling at Newnham College, Cambridge. As expected she excelled in her college education just as she had done in her previous education. By 1941 she received the Second Class Honors , which was the equivalent to a bachelors degree today. After graduating Franklin started working at the British Coal Utilization Research Association as an assistant research officer. Her work with the porosity of coal was her inspiration for her Ph.D. thesis " The Physical Chemistry of solid organic colloids with special reference to coal" (1945) |
